Mission Statement

The Boone County Smart Growth Coalition is a coalition of groups working to assure that Columbia/Boone County area develops into sustainable, prosperous communities with healthy balances between private and public interests, between urban and rural land use, and between developed areas and natural spaces.

The Coalition works to facilitate adoption of land use planning policies that:

• Protect areas of natural significance.
• Preserve and revitalize urban neighborhoods
• preserve the area's natural character.
• Conserve open space.
• Reduce leapfrog development.
• Reduce public subsidy of infrastructure that supports and encourages urban sprawl.
• Encourages the viability of family farms.
