Smart Growth Awards for 2005

On Wed. Sept. 7 at 7:15 p.m. the Boone County Smart Growth Coalition will present a 2005 Smart Growth Vision Award to Sherri DeRousse & Gary Guti (land owners and developer) for the “Bear Creek Prairie”, a unique living community development, which uses low impact development, that preserves pristine glacial prairie and woodland. It is located on Northland Rd. on a main city bus line and adjacent to the Bear Creek Trail, making walking, biking and bus use easy. It is located within the City limits where public roads and sewers already exist, which reduces the need for additional public infrastructure costs. [The other two 2005 Smart Growth Awards will be presented on the first Wed. in Oct. to Columbia College and the YouMuseum]. In addition, Dan Kuebler and Tim Harlan will speak and answer questions about the proposed multi-use farmers market facility to be on the Nov. 2005 Ballot. Learn how this will benefit Columbia and Boone Co. in numerous ways (including helping Boone Co. family farmers & preserving some of the rural character of Boone County, which was the #1 goal of the Boone County Visioning Group.
